Certification Program Choices

NAFA offers a variety of certification and certificate programs to provide best-in-class education offerings for the fleet industry. The certification program has continued to evolve over the years encompassing the core competencies of fleet management for all sector types. There are eight modules that make up the certification program.

Certified Automotive Fleet Manager (CAFM)

The Certified Automotive Fleet Manager (CAFM) certification program offers the most current fleet management education for more than 35 years. The CAFM program is divided into eight disciplines, covering the essential core competencies of fleet management. To earn your CAFM, you are required to pass all eight disciplines within a three-year period.

The CAFM is a self-study program open to any individual with at least one year of experience in any fleet-related position. This program is geared to those who need exposure to all aspects of fleet management as well as those looking to advance in their current position.

The CAFM is ranked as a Top 10 Certification

The Certified Automotive Fleet Manager (CAFM) designation gives you a great advantage in advancing your fleet career. Did you also know it was identified as one of the top 10 certifications for increasing salaries?

Monster.com launched a report that outlined the top 10 certifications – in all industries – that boost salaries and CAFM made the list. In fact, the report highlighted that CAFM holders earn 27% more than those who have not received the certification!

Fleet Discipline Certificates

The Fleet Discipline Certificate Program allows individuals to take one fleet discipline at a time. NAFA’s Fleet Discipline Certificates give fleet managers, corporate buyers, fleet management companies, and service provider employees an easy, effective method of learning “best practices” in a specific fleet management discipline. The content is the same as what is required for CAFM program certification. Fleet Discipline Certificates are developed for professionals who only work in one or two specific areas of fleet or want to sample a module before committing to a larger certification program.

Fleet Discipline Certificates include:

  • Asset Management
  • Business Management
  • Financial Management
  • Information Management
  • Maintenance Management
  • Professional Development
  • Risk Management
  • Vehicle Fuel Management

The certificate program also offers the Sustainable Fleet Management Certificate, which was created to teach fleet professionals the latest, most authoritative practices and helping you turn ideas into action. Learn about:

  • Building a sustainable fleet.
  • Establishing sustainable driver training.
  • Defining sustainability-focused metrics and measures.
  • Demonstrating leadership and change management principles.
  • Using and tracking fuel to support sustainability goals and practices.
  • Acquiring a sustainable fleet and achieving strategic mobility concepts and practices.
(Completion of this certificate program does not count towards CAFM requirements.)

Why Certify

Did you know there are benefits for a business when an employee gets certified? Three reasons why having staff earn a certification benefits the organization:

Promotes Longevity: People are happier working for organizations that are invested in their professional development and committed to helping them take the next steps in their career. When the company invests in employees, they invest in the future of the organization.

Employees will feel valued by the company, which can go a long way in prompting them to want to stay, which reduces one of your biggest headaches and expenses — staff turnover.

Increases Competence: Certified employees learn from their training the importance of adhering to certain professional standards. You can more easily and confidently rely on your team’s ability to meet industry benchmarks and count on work of a higher and more consistent quality. Managers who support professional development can get the most from their staff members. To compete with best-in-class organizations, you need highly skilled and qualified employees at all levels.

Enhances Productivity: The ROI of the CAFM program is measurable and remarkable. Studies by a variety of organizations — including Microsoft, IDC, CompTIA, and Novell — have shown that employees with a professional certification are more productive. That’s because certifications better prepare workers to deal with day-to-day challenges and get the most out of new technologies. Certified employees often work more efficiently than uncertified colleagues, and their presence can help improve the productivity of team projects.
