NAFA’s Essentials of Fleet Management Seminar Accelerated (EFMS Accelerated) is a concentrated one-day seminar overviewing the various fundamental principles of running an efficient fleet. It is designed for individuals new to the fleet industry or growing in their role to discover methodologies and solutions that will allow them to benchmark their fleet and lead to rapid improvements. Learn how to select the right vehicle, understand and evaluate risks in your fleet, and more.

EFMS Accelerated offers a comprehensive learning experience of the popular multi-day EFMS program, condensed into a single, intensive day. This format is designed for those who seek to gain in-depth knowledge and skills, without the extended time commitment. 

Participants will be able to:

  • Develop a primary understanding of fleet management strategies that can improve performance and cut costs
  • Discuss ways to better optimize your organization’s operations
  • Engage in informative fleet discussions with peers and experienced faculty
  • Ask questions to help address your specific needs in an interactive setting

8:30 – 9:15 pmSession 1: The Fleet Leader

A proficient fleet leader is versed in various leadership theories and traits, while understanding the importance of effective communication and empathy. In this session, attendees will learn how to distinguish between fostering accountability and assigning blame, as well as prioritizing succession planning, and nurturing internal talent for smooth transitions. 

9:15 – 10:15 amSession 2: Finding the Right Vehicle

This process is crucial for fleet managers, as it directly impacts operational efficiency and cost-effectiveness. This session will outline the significance of vehicle selection, emphasizing the identification of key selector factors and the development process. Additionally, it underscores the importance of soliciting input from users and stakeholders, and of employing tools like a selector matrix to make informed decisions regarding vehicle selection.

10:30 – 11:30 amSession 3: Fleet Reporting

Fleet Reporting is indispensable for effective fleet management. In this session, attendees will focus on how to develop standard and trend reports, utilize data warehouses, and leverage dashboards to visualize insights, fostering informed decision-making. 

11:30 – 12:30 pmSession 4:  Understanding The True Cost of a Vehicle

This session will focus on how to obtain essential information for a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) to comprehensively evaluate expenses for assets beyond the initial purchase. Attendees will learn about the correlation between vehicle replacement and strategic planning, and will be able to recognize the need for timely upgrades to align with organizational objectives.

1:00 – 2:00 pmSession 5: Fueling the Fleet

In this session, attendees will explore alternative fuel types beyond conventional gasoline and petroleum diesel, as well as demonstrate the utilization of Petroleum Reduction Calculators to evaluate the environmental and economic advantages of transitioning to alternative fuels. Additionally, attendees will discuss the influence of oil prices on fuel markets, strategizing fuel procurement, and the importance of maintaining strategic oil reserves to counteract supply disruptions and price fluctuations.

2:00 – 3:00 pmSession 6: Managing Maintenance

In this session, attendees will discuss the importance of evaluating workload and vehicle requirements to determine appropriate staffing levels. In addition, they will learn how well executed staff recruitment programs can attract qualified candidates and build a skilled team capable of efficiently servicing and repairing vehicles, minimizing downtime, and ensuring optimal fleet performance.

3:15 – 4:00 pmSession 7: Building Your Policy Framework

Attendees will learn about policy framework that involves defining, understanding, and developing comprehensive fleet policies and procedures that govern various aspects of fleet management, including vehicle usage, maintenance, safety, and compliance. Additionally, they will learn how to implement measures to monitor and enforce policy compliance, such as regular audits, training programs, and performance evaluations, fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement within the fleet management framework. 

4:00 – 5:00 pmSession 8: Managing Your Fleet’s Risk

This session will define risk and identify its sources, including factors such as vehicle accidents, equipment failures, and regulatory non-compliance. We will discuss how fleet managers must comprehend the risk management process, employing strategies to assess, mitigate, and monitor risks effectively, ensuring a comprehensive approach to risk management within the fleet management framework.
