The 100 Best Fleets in the Americas continues to be a robust competition, and in 2026, proved that the industry’s top public and commercial organizations outperformed previous years. The awards, announced during NAFA’s Institute & Expo last month in Cleveland, showcased the leaders and teams representing the best of the best.

In its second year, the Tom Johnson Award honors the founder of the 100 Best Fleets program and recognizes fleet professionals whose

lifetime contributions have significantly advanced their own operations and the fleet industry. Sponsored by RoadFlex, the award embodies Johnson’s legacy of excellence, innovation, and service.

From a competitive field of respected nominees, the judging panel selected Robert Martinez, deputy commissioner, New York City Police Department (retired). His career exemplifies the spirit of this award marked by continuous leadership, selfless dedication, and a profound impact on fleet operations and professional development across the industry.

Spotlights on Individual Excellence

Fleet Technician of the Year NAFA I&E 2026

Technician of the Year (sponsored by Nexpart). In 2026, 54 exceptional fleet technicians, representing both public and commercial sectors, were nominated for the prestigious Technician of the Year award. Notably, over half of this year’s nominees were again peer-selected, a powerful endorsement from those who work alongside them every day. This recognition reflects the deep respect these technicians have earned within their agencies and underscores the vital role they play in operational success.

The nominees brought a wide range of specialized expertise to the table, including EVT certification, aerial and utility truck maintenance, heavy equipment, automotive, small engine repair, heavy-duty truck, welding, and custom fabrication. The judges named Jerry Dake from the City of Buckeye, Arizona, the 2026 Fleet Technician of the Year.

Fleet Professional of the Year NAFA I&E 2026

Fleet Professional of the Year. The 100 Best Fleets program proudly honored the leadership and dedication of those guiding fleet operations behind the scenes. For the 2026 Fleet Professional of the Year Award, 64 outstanding individuals from public and commercial fleets across North America were nominated. This year’s nominees represented a broad cross-

section of fleet leadership roles, including fleet managers and directors, maintenance managers, supervisors, materials and supply chain professionals, fleet analysts, and fiscal and accounting staff. Each nominee brought unique skills, strategic insight, and operational impact to their organizations.

Timothy Coxwell, CAFM, CF, CEM, of the Leon County Sheriff’s Office was named the 2026 Fleet Professional of the Year.

The individuals and organizations honored in 2026 represent the pinnacle of performance in the fleet industry. They embody the highest standards of spirit, dedication, and perseverance and stand as examples of what’s possible through innovation, teamwork, and operational excellence.
