Tim Calhoun, CAFM®, is Director of Fleet for Palm Beach County Fire Rescue. He has 25 years in Fleet, first working for Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company after college, then joining Palm Beach County where he has been employed for 17 years.
He was Sunshine State Chapter Chair (2012 to 2014), and is the current President of the Florida Government Fleet Management Association. Tim is also a Palm Beach County United Way Coordinator (third year).
“The most important thing I learned in the CAFM® program? Truthfully, it was how much I didn’t know about an industry I had been in for 20 years at the time,” Tim said. “Studying for the eight fleet disciplines prepared me to tackle opportunities within our fleet that made it easier to share ideas of how we could improve purchasing and utilization of assets; staffing of the shop; managing productivity, and developing a succession plan that will ensure the success of our operation after I have retired.
“Achieving the CAFM® certainly has made me more confident and respected for (the achievement). Those in the industry are aware of how difficult it is to accomplish the CAFM®and the Department I work for is very supportive of continued education and self improvement. It also shows the employees that I work with that I not only preach self improvement, but I hold myself to the same standard.”
