Ken Bailey, CAFM®, is the Vehicle Maintenance Manager at Community Transit in Everett, Washington. He guides 70 personnel in the lifecycle maintenance of a 850 unit fleet of heavy transit coaches, paratransit vehicles, vanpool vans, and support vehicles. From 2012 to 2014 he was the Equipment Services Manager at the City of Oakland, California managing a fleet of 1,500 vehicles supporting all City departments. Prior to that he worked for the City of Seattle where he was the Vehicle Maintenance Director, responsible for maintenance of 4,000 equipment units and a 60-vehicle motor pool from 2006 to 2012.
Ken said, “The most valuable thing I learned in obtaining my CAFM® is the fleet management is a science and its correct application can maximize support to fleet users while minimizing costs to the organization.
“Apart from acquiring the tools of fleet management, the CAFM® program provided me the confidence and credibility to advocate for my fleet and its users. Whether it was persuading top management to allocate sufficient funding or convincing users to let go of unneeded vehicles, the certification provided that extra weight to prevail.”
