It is with great respect and sadness that we inform you that Milton Reid, former president of NAFA passed away on June 24, 2020 in Gainesville, Florida due to complications from cancer. He was 77. Milton was a former president of NAFA from 2003 to 2005. Milton had an illustrious career, earning a Bachelor of Science degree from Howard University in Mechanical Engineering and a building a career at General Electric Company in Erie, PA; Ford Motor Company in Dearborn, MI; ALCOA in Jamaica; Occidental Chemicals in White Springs, FL and the City of Gainesville, FL where he retired as the General Services Director in 2013. Milton served as the Chair of the Florida Association of Governmental Fleet Administrators (FLAGFA) and served in numerous capacities with the North Central Florida chapter of the United Way and the Harn Museum of Art at the University of Florida.
Patti Earley, President of NAFA says,”Milton was a champion of the fleet industry, a great leader, a valuable mentor to fellow fleet managers, and above all, a wonderful friend. The insight and wisdom he shared with the NAFA family were instrumental in moving the association forward.”
Bill Schankel, CEO of NAFA adds that Milton was “a well-respected professional in the fleet industry and a dedicated leader of NAFA. His years of leadership and service moved NAFA forward in so many ways, and he had the biggest impact on all of our members who knew him as a friend.”
Milton is survived by his wife Lisa and sons Mark, Kevin, Milton (2nd), Rory, Dean and Antwon; and grandchildren Dylan, Rhys, Zane, Victoria, Zara and Jordan. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 2, at 11:00 AM EDT. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the service will be restricted to immediate family members only. After public safety concerns are eliminated, a memorial service for friends and extended family will be considered. The family requests donations be made to the United Way in lieu of sending flowers.
