Caring For Environment Motivates Fleet Enhancements At Safelite AutoGlass
Bill Romba

The Safelite AutoGlass Fleet Department was honored as the recipients of the Fleet Excellence Award for Excellence in Corporate Fleet Sustainability Accomplishments at the 2018 NAFA Institute and Expo. Erin Gilchrist, Fleet Director, Safelite AutoGlass, has been in the fleet industry for 12 years and spoke about what this award means to her organization and the effort that she and her team put forth to achieve this recognition.

“This award is a validation of the work we do that supports and highlights our organization in the areas of fuel
consumption reduction, efficiency and environmental impact,” said Gilchrist. “Personally, we care about the environment and are honored to be recognized for our efforts that support this.

“We continually look for ways to reduce fuel consumption and over the years have combined a number of approaches to do
just that,” Gilchrist said. The Safelite team has done this by implementing telematics to help manage driver behavior, lightweighting vehicle components like glass racks and box truck bodies, piloting alternative fuels and technologies, and finding different ways to incentivize idle reduction.

According to Gilchrist, executing a wide array of enhancements is one of the biggest keys to their team’s success,
and offered some words of advice for fleet managers who might be looking to achieve more success with their own sustainability program. “Build a sustainability roadmap,” she explained.
