Full-time position for a Fleet Operations Superintendent to direct the Fleet Division.
The City of
The Fleet Division is an industry leader in the implementation and evaluation of alternative fuel and energy reduction options. The Fleet Superintendent will direct all activities pertaining to the acquisition, maintenance and repair of the city’s heavy equipment, vehicles, and other equipment within the City’s vehicle and equipment pool.
This person will supervise a 16 person division and be responsible for effective and efficient operation of the maintenance and acquisition functions.
We are seeking a person who has management experience and considerable experience in maintenance operations and inventory/supply systems.
Must have computer skills in MS Office or similar products.
Associate’s degree and six years of related experience of which two years must be supervisory. Bachelor’s degree (B.A. or B.S.) preferred. Must have a valid Arkansas Driver’s license.
Starting pay range is a minimum of $61,171 to $70,345 DOQ, plus excellent benefit package.

This position is in the Fleet Services vehicle and equipment repair section and the majority of work will include repair of a variety of heavy truck/equipment to include construction equipment. This is work repairing, overhauling and replacing gasoline or diesel engines, transmissions, brakes, ignition systems or related equipment in automobiles, trucks, buses, firefighting equipment, emergency vehicles, heavy construction or related equipment; and repairing and painting the bodies of various types of vehicles. TYPE OF DUTIES: *Repairs and maintains diesel and gas engines. *Analyzes malfunctions and repairs, rebuilds, and maintains construction equipment. *Operates and inspects machines or equipment to diagnose defects and ensure operational condition. *Diagnoses trouble, disassembles and repairs engines.
*Repairs and replaces fuel injection systems. *May weld and cut parts and structural members, using arc-welding and flame cutting equipment. *Tests overhauled equipment to ensure operating efficiency.
*Adjusts brakes and repairs all types of brake systems. *Aligns and repairs steering mechanisms and suspension systems. *Repairs electrical systems. *Answers emergency road service calls to repair equipment outside in the field. *Performs minor body work on a variety of vehicles. *Repairs air-conditioning systems. *Diagnoses and repairs vehicle computer systems. *Estimates repair labor cost, determines part costs and availability. JOB BASED COMPETENCIES: *Good technical knowledge of gasoline and diesel engines, electrical, hydraulic and mechanical systems. *Skill in the use of tools, machines and testing instruments of the automotive/construction repair field. *Ability to diagnose malfunctions in automotive and construction equipment. *Ability to understand oral and written instruction and automotive diagrams. *Ability to perform a variety of equipment repairs, operate motor vehicles, inspect and tune-up equipment, install accessories, perform limited welding, troubleshoot electrical/computer systems and repair fuel systems. SPECIAL NOTE: This position has been identified by Sarasota County Government as one that will require a pre-employment drug screen as part of the selection process. DUTIES: Will be responsible for undertaking projects of varying scope and complexity relating to the analysis, design, development, implementation and maintenance of Fleet vehicles, utilizing theoretical and practical knowledge in the field of mechanical engineering.

Knowledge of project management, including cost control and project administration.
