Dave Barry Wows Standing-Room-Only Crowd at NAFA’s FMI-LEG Conference
ISELIN, NJ, May 15, 2006 -- Dave Barry, the Pulitzer Prize-winning columnist, delivered the keynote address at NAFA’s joint FMI-LEG Conference & Expo on Sunday, May 9, in Orlando, Florida. The ballroom was filled to maximum capacity, with several people choosing to stand when the last chairs were quickly snatched up. Peals of laughter reverberated throughout the ballroom and down the hallway at the Gaylord Palm Resort & Conference Center.
For those familiar with Barry’s “I am not making this up” style, the transition from humor columnist to stand-up comic was a welcome one. His story of how he embarrassed his teen-age son by picking him up from school in the Oscar Mayer Weinermobile appealed to the many parents in the audience. His true story of Oregon’s attempt to remove a whale’s rotting carcass from on a beach brought the house down. And the final topic of Barry’s address, the age-old conundrum of male-female relationships, was elegant in its simplicity: “Ladies, lower your standards.”
Following his address, Barry autographed copies of his latest book Dave Barry’s Money Secrets: Like: Why Is There a Giant Eyeball on the Dollar? in the Presentation Theater in the Exhibit Hall.
Barry has written several best-sellers including Dave Barry in Cyberspace, Dave Barry Talks Back, Dave is from Mars and Venus and Big Trouble.
